Innovation & EntrepreneurshipDepartment for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT)

Startup India

Initiative launched in January 2016 to build a strong ecosystem for nurturing innovation and startups, providing tax exemptions, easier compliance, IPR fast-tracking, and the Fund of Funds for Startups (FFS) of ₹10,000 crore administered by SIDBI.

Why UPSC tests this

Common UPSC angles: definition of a 'startup' (DPIIT recognition criteria), the FFS structure (FFS does not invest directly in startups but in SEBI-registered AIFs that do), and tax benefits under Section 80-IAC.
