India's 500-Megawatt Prototype Fast Breeder Reactor (PFBR) achieved first criticality in April 2026, marking a significant scientific milestone and India's entry into the second stage of its nuclear energy program.

This advancement, along with the December 2025 SHANTI Act opening the civil nuclear sector, bolsters India's commitment to clean energy and its 2070 net-zero emissions target.
