Oil Slick Detected after Liberian Container Vessel Sinks off Kerala Coast; ICG Leads Pollution Response
The Indian Coast Guard launched a full-scale pollution response after the Liberian container vessel MV MSC ELSA 3 sank off Alappuzha, Kerala, on May 25, 2025, causing an oil slick.
ICG deployed specialised assets like ICG Ship Saksham and Dornier aircraft to disperse Oil Spill Dispersant. Authorities also initiated legal action against the vessel owners and advised state administration on shoreline clean-up.
