NHRC, India takes suo motu cognizance of a media report regarding the arrest and remand to custody of a Professor of Ashoka University in Haryana

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken suo motu cognizance of a media report dated May 20, 2025, regarding the arrest of an Ashoka University professor in Haryana.

The Commission believes this incident prima facie indicates a violation of human rights and liberty, and has accordingly issued a notice to the Director General of Police, Haryana, seeking a detailed report.
