PARLIAMENT QUESTION: R&D OF SMALL MODULAR REACTORS

The government launched the Nuclear Energy Mission with ₹20,000 crore for R&D of Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) during Budget 2025.

BARC is developing several SMRs like BSMR-200 for thermal plant repurposing, SMR-55 for remote energy, and a 5 MWth HTGCR for hydrogen generation. A new BARC campus in Vizag will house these and other R&D facilities.
