47 New National Waterways (NWs) to be operational by 2027; Cargo volume to rise up to 156 MTPA by 2026”: Sarbananda Sonowal

The Ministry of Ports, Shipping & Waterways aims to operationalize 76 National Waterways by 2027, projecting inland water cargo volume to reach 156 MTPA by March 2026.

Supported by the Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI), this initiative includes ₹1,400 crore projects announced in January 2025, expanding the network to 23 states and 4 UTs by FY 2027, and aligns with Maritime India Vision 2030.
