Protection of Tribal Languages

The Ministry of Tribal Affairs supports 29 Tribal Research Institutes (TRIs) through a Centrally Sponsored Scheme to preserve tribal cultural heritage and languages.

Concurrently, the Ministry of Education's 2013 'Scheme for Protection and Preservation of Endangered Languages (SPPEL)', run by CIIL Mysuru, aims to document 117 languages spoken by less than 10,000 people, involving local communities and leveraging the Bhasha Sanchika digital repository.
