Navigation of Ships

The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways provided an update on the navigation of inland vessels on National Waterway-1 (NW-1), which is the Ganga-Bhagirathi-Hooghly River System from Haldia to Varanasi.

The World Bank-assisted Jal Marg Vikas Project (JMVP) is augmenting NW-1's capacity across four states, aiming for significant employment generation and infrastructure development. The operating cost of Inland Water Transport is Rs. 1.2 per Ton Kilometre as per a World Bank study.
