Mystery behind the sting of the black scorpion decoded

Scientists at IASST, Guwahati, have decoded the venom of the glossy black scorpion, *Heterometrus bengalensis*, indigenous to Eastern and Southern India.

They identified 25 toxins across eight protein families responsible for systemic toxicity, organ damage, and inflammatory responses. This research addresses a significant gap in understanding this lesser-known species' venom composition and effects.
