DISASTER RESPONSE IN GLOF EVENTS

The Central Government is implementing strategic measures for disaster response to Glacial Lake Outburst Floods (GLOFs) in the Indian Himalayan Region.

Various bodies like DST, WIHG, CWC, and Ministry of Jal Shakti are engaged in research, monitoring, capacity building, and developing guidelines for GLOF risk mitigation. Key initiatives include comprehensive lake inventories, vulnerability assessments, weather station installations, and future guidelines for dam safety.
