Pondicherry University Vice-Chancellor releases a new book on Prosopis juliflora

Pondicherry University has released a new book on *Prosopis juliflora*, an invasive species locally known as seemai karuvelam, which poses a significant environmental threat in India.

The book highlights the weed's negative allelopathy and its uncontrolled spread, which led to writ petitions in the Madras High Court in 2022. Researchers at the university have focused on finding ways to economically utilize its biomass.
