National Social Assistance Programme
The National Social Assistance Programme (NSAP), launched in 1995, is a Centrally Sponsored Scheme implemented by the Ministry of Rural Development.
It provides social security to BPL individuals through various pensions and food security, currently benefiting around 3.09 crore people. Benefits are mainly disbursed via DBT, with local bodies involved in beneficiary identification and states appointing Nodal Secretaries for oversight.
