There is no human activity that does not affect the environment. For centuries, society has suffered various types of environmental damage, in which the role of air pollution caused by ancient, uncontrolled methods of burning fire is not less. Romans, Britons, whose huts had provisions for burning fire, found that smoke was dangerous for health and human skulls were found to have pits on examination, which is a sign of high incidence of sinusitis. The United Kingdom was the first country where large-scale coal-based industrial development took place. Between 1580 and 1680, coal imports to London increased from 20,000 tons to 360,000 tons per year and London became the 'city of smelly fog'. Due to cold temperatures and humid air, the moisture in the air condensed on the particles present in the air due to coal combustion, and after the incident of December 1952, these disappeared. The atmosphere became opaque due to fog over a radius of 20 miles and it was found that in the week ending December 13, 1952, the normal weekly number of deaths increased by 2851. In response to this, in 1956 and 1968, the Clean Air Acts mainly dealt with smoke in cities. Two decades after the smog disaster, the Environmental Control Act (1974) was brought in and systematic large-scale action was initiated in the direction of comprehensive improvement in air quality as part of overall environmental protection. Similar experiences occurred in Europe and North America during the 20th century.
